SUMMARY:Joint (Ad)Ventures: Reinventing Field Trips into Collective Learning Expeditions
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this session is to review NYSED’s expectations around 21st&nbsp\;CCLC field trip planning which has recently been updated and streamlined in an effort to home in on the critical elements that will be considered when approving a field trip request. Funds to pay for memorable learning experiences can be money well spent. As stewards of 21st&nbsp\;CCLC funding\, it behooves us to put it to the best use possible\, as field trip expenses can be substantial given transportation and other costs.\n&nbsp\;\nA panel of our 21st CCLC peers will help set the stage by sharing examples of field trips they have embarked on that were truly educational and memorable for all involved. The hope is that participants will not only gain knowledge about how to submit a field trip request that is approvable but also will be inspired to “think outside of the box”\; to expand the thought processes in choosing a destination that is aligned with and enhances your existing grant programming and how to plan pre and post activities and reflections that make the most of that experience. &nbsp\;Presentations and conversations within this space will invite and engage participants to share effective practices and strategies to strengthen their unique\, valuable resources\, allowing program staff\, parents\, volunteers\, and partners to combine their skills and efforts to co-create impactful experiences that leverage community assets.\n\n

SUMMARY:Designing for Belonging and Well-Being: A Positive Approach to Youth Outcomes
DESCRIPTION:What happens when a school or youth program organizes itself around the question\, “Does every young person feel like they belong here?” What becomes possible when we shift from a focus on preventing problems to instead organizing around cultivating belonging\, well-being\, and positive outcomes for young people? This session explores how a shift in orientation -- from risk mitigation to well-being -- can subtly but powerfully influence mindsets\, policies\, and daily practice.\n&nbsp\;\nDrawing on a recent co-design process with young leaders\, NYS Youth Bureaus\, and NYS OCFS to create a positive outcomes framework\, we will share insights about how centering well-being and belonging changes the questions adults ask\, the structures they build\, and the ways young people experience their environments. Participants will engage in guided reflection to consider what might shift in their own contexts if belonging became the driving goal\, and how those shifts could strengthen relationships\, motivation\, and learning.
